My....my inner geek is screaming with luscious joy and bloodlust. Just look at the animation of the 1st fight! The clip is married with audio from the Realta Nua PS3 visual novel. The fight looks really good, this is what I imagine how the fight look like between Servants when I read the visual novel back in 2005/6.
Studio Deen's version look so amateurish compared to this! Wow.
Correction: Okay, this is 2nd fight of the story. Sorry.
Hoah! Just saw this picture and immediately I can imagine him directing a live action version of Madoka. Seriously! Imagine it done in Pan's Labyrinth's style. That will be quite something.
Well, he could be just teasing and having fun, maybe bought for his own geeking time or maybe something more? You never know.
Yeap, we all guilty of making fun of it. Arnie the ex-California governor as Terminator + Robocop + Neo + whatever else jokes. Guess he heard it and as savvy as ever, he decides to cash on the jokes. It looks like kid friendly cartoon to me though. I admit that I laughed hysterically when I watch the trailer for first time.
Yeah man, don't fool around. The Governator is here. Will be back soon in 2012 to terminate the baddies, sticking around and already hungry despite chewing Green Berets for breakfast.
The evergreen tale of rivalry between Admiral Wang Wen Li and Emperor Lohengramm will be presented in stage play format in Tokyo, starting next January. Strangely I always thought that while I was watching the epic anime including the movies. Perhaps the generous use of classical music in the anime made me think that way. Heh.
It is pretty cool for me, a fanboy of this epic series.
I am quite irritated by this trope of Japanese sword is better than Western sword which many, many anime series love to perpetuate. Latest of this is the underwhelming fantasy anime series based on light novels by Isau Miura which is now animated by Mangalobe; Sacred Blacksmith. There is even a scene where the katana cuts thru an axe (!) where the heroine's heirloom longsword broke against it earlier.
Sacred Blacksmith, a new sucky anime series by Mangalobe (Samurai Champloo, Michiko no Hatchin) touting the virtues of katana sword over blunt, European styled longsword. Which is not true. Look below for why I said so:
See? The European longsword might need little more force but it cuts thru the tamesghiri (straw mats) just as effectively as the katana. So the whole fact of "katana is superior than Western longsword" is utter BS. What is more ironic that the katana is often a secondary weapon of real samurai during the civil wars, they prefer to use bow, spears or later on, arquebus to fight in battlefield.
Here is the CONCLUSIVE evidence of the fact, katana versus longsword side by side against the same target:
There? I rest my case now. Oh, Sacred Blacksmithmanga is more entertaining than the anime to be honest.
For Academy Awards 2009 for animation movies category, 2 anime originated flicks were chosen for nominee candidates, namely Ponyo and Astroboy CG Movie. I haven't watch Astroboy yet but Ponyo to be honest, not really Miyazaki's best work. To me, Princess Mononoke is his magnum opus. Ponyo did not have the same amount of charm and magical moment like Spirited Away nor grittiness and honesty like Princess Mononoke.
But yeah, good luck to Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki sensei anyway.
Despite the predicted horrific sales prospect for Haruhi S2 DVD/BD sales because of much maligned Endless Eight arc, it did pretty well. The 2nd disc of Endless Eight arc sold close to 12,900 (benchmark is 3000) copies showing that Kyoto Animation magic still held true with massive support from loyal Haruhi fans. First volume of the arc sold about 14,000 copies, much to surprise of many people. Many pundits said that the other remaining volumes of the arc will breach the 10,000 mark each based on this example but it remains to be seen. Seriously, this did not make sense to me at all. The only thing I can think of is moe-tardism: The fans were so enraptured by the moe factor that they willing forgive almost everything, even with such massive trolling by the studio. I cannot imagine any other normal series can pull this off without incurring any wrath from fans. What I fear now that in future anime studios will churn out more craps because they believe the fans will lap it up despite angry reactions from the public. As long it have enough moe and nicely packaged to appeal to more baser instinct.
Like my friend said it once, market forces do not apply to otakus. By the way, the Haruhi movie is scheduled for 6th of Feb 2010, but it is subject to change.
I heard and read many angry retorts from fans about this upcoming movie, citing that using extensive CG will destroy the old spirit that gives Astro Boy its charm. To me, I am don't really bothered by it since anime is medium of expression. CG or hand drawn did not matter in the end since most crucial is the deliverance of a good, solid entertaining story. Afterall, it is what film making is all about. Honestly sometimes I think people need to relax and accept it as alternative expression of similar material.
I will watch the movie without any prejudice, that's for sure.
Few hours ago, someone posted these pages. I am literally went OMGWTFBBQ. This is weird as hell and I don't know what to make of it. Synopsis is meaningless to describe how awkward this series is.
It is like mutant of gun porn and Japanese school girl. A lethal cocktail.
Perhaps NRA or gun rights advocate will approve this manga? Authored by Kitsune Tennouji, serialised in Young Ace published by Kadokawa Shoten.
Synopsis: A teacher is looking for a school by the name of Seishou Academy, as he is a new transfer teacher for that school. Seishou Academy is known for having students with excellent marksmanship. However, he gets lost along the way and decides to look for someone who knows where the school is at a summer festival. He encounters a girl at a shooting range and finds her marksmanship skills to be professional. The girl tells the new teacher that she is an assault rifle, not a student. Her name is FNC and is an assault rifle of Seishou Academy. The new teacher attends school the next day to find students, including FNC, practicing shooting M16s and realizes that he has come to an unbelievable school. How will his experience be at Seishou Academy?
Ah this post is pure fanboy moment. I am not ashamed of it, this is a nice cover featuring both of them eyeballing each other out in bikini. Yeah babey! Click for higher resolution!
Ah a blast from the past. I remember saw this at friend's house 10 years ago. It includes every reference of sci fi pop culture from 70s and 80s which also marked debut of GAINAX with its problem child, Hideaki Anno.
Something got my interest today, Yamamoto Yutaka the former Kyoto Animation director picked up "dead" project, 801 Tonari Chan which is canceled few months ago. Interesting, considering the problematic relationship between the director and the famous studio due to Lucky Star direction disagreement. Yamamoto went off directing Kannagi with poached former A class staffers from Kyoto Animation and now he is directing 90 second short for former Kyoto Animation project. Coincidence? I dunno. The chances is too high for mere coincidence. It smells of good human drama here, IMHO.
Kannagi even featured an "anonymous" anime director that indirectly chiding Kyoto Animation. Here is summary of an interview with him in English. This interview also reveals his comments on current impasse of anime industry, he basically felt the anime creativity has stagnant since days of Evangelion of mid 90s. He is talks on why Kannagi is more superior and original than ToraDora! and Index in this interview. Interesting fellow!
